        Got files? Need a place to store those files? Want something with more style than you would find at a retail office supply store? Look no further. This cabinet was a custom order and is spoken for but I can build one to fit your specific needs.

       Measuring in at 33" tall, 25" deep and 20" wide the cabinet pictured is constructed with a 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" angle frame and a 16 gauge sheet metal skin. The two drawers are also 16 gauge. They feature hemmed edges and removable file racks. Each drawer and the inside of the cabinet is finished in silver hammer tone leaving a bright, durable finish. The outside of the cabinet has a hand rubbed black stain applied.

What do you want to spell? Your name, town or initials? All of the letters of the alphabet are available. Cut from 16 gauge hot rolled steel and measuring around 11 inches tall these letters are bold and sturdy.

This old stool

 

This old metal stool was recently rescued and returned to it's original purpose. Found in a backyard workshop dirty and neglected, the stool had a plywood top attached and was being used as a table. After removing the handful of bolts that fastened the wood to the seat a grinder made quick work of removing several layers of paint. With a few welds here and there to fix some previous modifications the stool was ready for a fresh coat of black stain. With the stain dry the stool is ready once again to perform the job it was intended to do, provide a place to sit.

A tale of two boards...

I have combined wood with a few pieces of furniture that I have built. New wood, from one of the big box stores. Distressed, burned and beaten. All of the tricks used to get a new piece of wood to look old and used. It's easy, inexpensive and looks OK. Just OK. Distressed new wood does not have the look or feel of the real thing. Real old boards. Aged to perfection by time and the elements. Saw marks. Nail holes. Old wood tells that story. The tale of barn builders, rain, wind and snow. It is a story that can not be made up, it is a story that has been earned.

The pictures below show the transition from gray weathered barn board to sanded, waxed, and ready for a new life barn board. Barn board that will soon find it's way into a piece of  Black Falcon Fabrication industrial inspired furniture.

April Fools Day Finds

 Sunday morning started early as my wife Anna and I headed west to Frederick, MD. We were on our way to Chartreuse & Co for their Market Days sale. Along with the regular vendors in the barn there were several  sellers set up outside for the special Market Days. Items offered ranged from vintage industrial to shabby chic with loads of great pieces in between.

Arriving a little before the official opening time we wandered through the spaces as everyone was hurrying with the last minute details of their booths. As noon approached the sellers were ready and the browsing and buying began. Items were priced reasonable and it did not take long for us to realize we lacked a couple of key things.  Room in the car and space at home. It took great restraint not to load up on so many cool items.

While we were unable to purchase all of the pieces we wanted, due to the previously mentioned space issues, the items pictured above did make it home with us. I see coffee tables and coat racks in that pile of rust and galvanized metal. Be on the lookout for future posts with the finished pieces.
